- short race report,
Yesterday, sunday, I ran the Bear Creek Challenge 10k trail run. The “trail” was very narrow and very rocky and hilly and technical=fun and challenging. The day was gorgeous! I barely made it to the starting line as I couldn’t find my way to the race. Anyways, i did make it about 5 minutes before the start. I had just enough time to use the lady’s room and get my # before we were off! I got stuck behind a line of people on the trail and stayed behind them for about a mile, then politely passed them when the time was right. The trails were tough since they were covered with rocks and then about 1 inch of slippery dry leaves. I was 2nd woman for a good part of the race then on a killer hill, a lady passed me. Awhile later as i was running down a steep hill a guy in front of me took a bad tumble and twisted his ankle so I stopped to see if he was ok. Right at that moment another lady passed me flying. I caught up and passed her, then she passed me and I gave up. I sprinted to the finish line and was 5th woman overall! I ended up taking 2nd for my age group. The best part was that I didin’t feel tired at all. I also won a huge container of HEED in the raffle and scored a cool shirt for my collection! I can’t wait till my next race the weekend of thanksgiving!

my race report from yesterday:
Yesterday at 11am my sister and I ran the “dirty bird 15k” we got out there with some pre-race jitters and had pee about 50 times each! It was a gorgeous day and we got to the starting line and were off with hoots and yells. we had a very short section of road before we hit the trails. I tried to get ahead on the road section but there were so many people! we got on the trail and it was a tough, muddy, rocky, hill single track, i was able to pass a couple of people but it was tough. my legs felt a little heavy throughout the race but it was a gorgeous day. I finished strong and felt great. at the end of the race my sister had just come in about 6 minutes before me and we came to find out that there were 465 runners on that tiny single track! One old guy there was 77 and had just run the Philadelphia marathon! awesome, awesome day.

hope you had a happy marathon! I’m sad I missed it, we went on a family camping trip up to state college. My sister was running the whole Tussey Mtn back course but I only needed to do three hours. We set out at 5am in the dark. Right at 7am I looked at my watch and thought about you and Alan and all the other runners at the start line of Philly, I sent you good running thoughts. I hope it went well and most of all I hope you had fun! Hope to see the livecast tonight.

Just finished podcast 65. I just wanted to say thanks. I was lying on my bed after a very long day teaching and knew I needed to get out and run but felt too tired. I wanted to just turn on the TV and veg. I was listening to your podcast and heard about your meeting with Dean Karnazes. His comment of “Never Quit” got me off my arse, out the door and round my 6 mile route. Cheers.
