hope you had a happy marathon! I’m sad I missed it, we went on a family camping trip up to state college. My sister was running the whole Tussey Mtn back course but I only needed to do three hours. We set out at 5am in the dark. Right at 7am I looked at my watch and thought about you and Alan and all the other runners at the start line of Philly, I sent you good running thoughts. I hope it went well and most of all I hope you had fun! Hope to see the livecast tonight.

my race report from yesterday:
Yesterday at 11am my sister and I ran the “dirty bird 15k” we got out there with some pre-race jitters and had pee about 50 times each! It was a gorgeous day and we got to the starting line and were off with hoots and yells. we had a very short section of road before we hit the trails. I tried to get ahead on the road section but there were so many people! we got on the trail and it was a tough, muddy, rocky, hill single track, i was able to pass a couple of people but it was tough. my legs felt a little heavy throughout the race but it was a gorgeous day. I finished strong and felt great. at the end of the race my sister had just come in about 6 minutes before me and we came to find out that there were 465 runners on that tiny single track! One old guy there was 77 and had just run the Philadelphia marathon! awesome, awesome day.

Thanks for a good podcast.
To answer your question, no, I haven’t done a tri yet. I plan to do one in the new year as I’m getting a lot of the gear (set suit, goggles etc.) for Christmas presents. I look forward to the email.
I had a fun 10K on Sunday. It was my first run with my brother and his first ever race. He’d never run that far before so did very well to keep the pace up. We have always been competitive and running is the first sport where I’m better. However, he still tried his luck in the last 200 meters and suddenly sprinted off. I was ready and didn’t give an inch.
The picture of us as we approach the line is hilarious. I’m grinning and he’s got such an expression of effort. Brilliant. You can see the picture on my blog.
Thanks,
Simon

I am way behind but finally getting caught up. At my house, 2010 is the year of ‘me’. Over the past few years I have come back to racing after a long layoff, but have done most events to help someone else. Next year, the plan is to run the races for me. That doesn’t mean every race, but the majority fall into the ‘me’ category. (kind of calls back to an old SNL news update about the ‘Al Franken Decade’)
I’m planning for a spring marathon, either St Louis or Illinois (in Champaign-Urbana), followed by half in late May – Geist. The fall marathon target is the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon.
It should be interesting trying to manage a marathon program through both the coldest and hottest seasons!
