What Do You Want To Do Next Year?

logo

So, we’re at the time of year where one of a couple of scenarios are playing out in the world of endurance sports. If you’re a triathlete in the United States and Canada, chances are, your season _41726010_triathlon_416is over. If you’re a runner with a marathon on your schedule, it’s either over or you’re a couple of weeks away, or it’s in the Spring. But what’s next?

Often, this time of year is a time to log base building and maintenance miles. Of course, there is the obligatory Turkey Trot, New Year’s Day race or shorter race here and there. However, as endurance athletes, we tend to have much bigger fish to fry.

Personally, I am running the Philadelphia Marathon on November 22, but after that, I will be looking to next year. As of now, my plan is  (subject to change, but this is it for now) the following:

June 6: Mooseman 70.3 (Half Ironman)

July 18: New York City Triathlon (Olympic Distance)

August 29: Ironman Louisville

September 12: Pumkinman (Half Ironman)

November 7: New York City Marathon (Once again, subject to lottery selection)

Of course, there will be a smattering of shorter races, both triathlons and road races, strewn about in between the big stuff, but those are my “A-races” for 2010 (once again, subject to change)! While I am generally one to play my expectations fairly close to the vest, I can say that I am so incredibly excited to be working with Jeff Kline as my coach! He’s more than knowledgeable and he pushes with so much positive encouragement toward your goals. You can be certain, that when I blow away my times from this year, it will be thanks to hard work and Jeff’s constant encouragement and guidance.

What are your goal races for next year? Are you doing a triathlon or a marathon for the first time? Leave me a comment and let me know!

my plan for next year is to run a race every month!! i ran my first marathon in october and hope to do TWO next year (may and october). i have yet to do a tri, but might throw one in there somewhere (only a sprint distance). good luck with your race plans and in philly! you seem extremely hardcore, and i love it!

Great to see that you’ve got so much of your year planned out ahead of time. It makes it easier to outline your training. I’ll be running my first marathon next May. Between now and then, I’ve got a few 10k’s lined up, along with another half marathon or two. My main goal this winter is to build a HUGE mileage base, assuming this old body holds up. So far, so good, though!

My race schedule is up in the air at the moment. I do know that I will be training for the Rhode Island Save the Bay swim. Its a 1.7 mile swim from Newport to Jamestown across Narragansett Bay. It should be really fun. I might also do a half iron distance aqua bike. I can’t wait for next season.

I’d like to run the Manhattan and Bronx 1/2 marathons in January and February respectively. I’m looking into the Pocono Mountain Marathon in May and possibly the Philadelphia Marathon in the fall.

I’m planning to run a half marathon in Feb/March and hopefully Boston in April. In honor of my big 30th, I plan to run the Pikes Peak Marathon in August and the NYC Marathon in November. I’ll fill in the gaps with my first triathlon in June and some other races too:) Busy year – whew!

    hi mate,
just going to focus on two races next year. London in april, and Berlin in september. If everything went to plan, then London would be done in a 3.30 or better, then on to Berlin. If i could do Belin in 3.15.59 then i would make the cut for Boston. So in theory to shave off 15 mins every 6 month.

I aim to break my PR at the Brighton marathon in April unless my lazy brother finally gives in a chooses to run with me and then it will be just about having fun.

Then its back on the bike and probably off to do the Imbeciles of Ventoux; A one day ride up the three sides of Mont Ventoux in France.
