Veronica Campbell-Brown Tests Positive for Banned Substance
Jamaican track star, Veronica Campbell-Brown, tested positive for a banned substance it was announced last week. The test, which took place on May 4 revealed showed Campbell-Brown’s A sample with the presence of a diuretic. Diuretics are banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) because they are used as a masking agent. Diuretics cause the body to release excess fluids, primarily through urination, which makes it that much more difficult to detect performance enhancing drugs.
The Olympic gold medalist was made aware of the positive test result on June 3. The B sample confirmed the positive result and the International Association of Athletics Federations is expected to make an announcement this week regarding any penalties VCB will have to face.
