Kilian Jornet Inspires Me
Originally I was going to write a long article about finding inspiration in simple grandeur or something like that but I think that would probably be antithetical to my point. So, I’m just going to show you a video and tell you briefly why it inspires me.
If you’ve never heard of Kilian Jornet or had the chance to see him run, it’s a true thing of beauty. Growing up in Puigcerdà, Catalonia (Spain), Kilian cut his teeth as a natural born mountain runner (among other things). A couple years ago one of his sponsors, Salomon, began to make a web series called “Kilian’s Quest“. I’ve seen almost every episode of each season and after watching one, I always feel not only inspired to go run but inspired to seek out simplicity. While he is a thoroughbred athlete, Kilian always seems to be enjoying every step. Sometimes with all our training and focus on races, I think that we need to take a step back and find our own grandeur in simplicity and happiness.
Today, Kilian is attempting to set the record for running the Matterhorn uphill and downhill from Cervinia in under 3:14, a record held by skyrunning pioneer Bruno Brunod. Best of luck to you Kilian. Run strong.
